cab:app

We played a pivotal role in helping cabbie Peter Shrive achieve his vision for a mobile phone app that allows passengers to hail a London black cab to their specific location anywhere in the city.

Working in close partnership with the mobile experts at Grapple, we helped to bring this exciting concept to life across Android, Blackberry, Nokia and iPhone platforms. Rippleffect was responsible for building and testing the back-end functionality and API, with Grapple handling the build of the application.

The app caters for two distinct types of user, driver and passenger, with different interfaces and functionality for each.

Drivers can create a secure profile, allowing them to view and accept jobs within a mile of their location; if no drivers accept the job, the radius expands to notify other drivers. There is also the option to view real-time maps and manage pre-bookings for better organisation of their day.

Passengers can set where they want to be picked up (manually or via GPS), pre-book cabs and pay via card, find other passengers who may be willing to share and receive updates as their cab driver travels to meet them.

The pay-as-you go app has been a huge success, receiving excellent press coverage and being hailed as Shortlist's Business App of the Week in October 2011.
